The Lab
Lab Space
Our cutting-edge lab facility houses a diverse array of machinery used to facilitate the seamless preparation of materials required for our experiments. Featured prominently in the image is our pipette puller, a precision instrument vital for producing the precise pipettes required for our patch clamping experiments.
Stereoscope
Our stereoscope plays a pivotal role in our daily experiments, serving as an indispensable tool for both retinal dissection and the sorting of embryos.
Vibratome
Our lab vibratome is a specialized tool used specifically for our retina research, allowing us to create thin and precise slices of retinal tissue, helping us study its structure and functions with accuracy and detail.
Multiphoton Microscope
The multiphoton is a microscope that utilizes a nonlinear optical process called two-photon excitation, where the simultaneous absorption of two lower-energy photons excites fluorophores in the specimen. This technique offers high-resolution images with minimal damage to the sample. By using ultrafast laser pulses, multiphoton microscopy reduces phototoxicity and photobleaching, enabling deeper imaging in thick biological samples.
Confocal Microscope
A confocal microscope is an advanced microscope used for experiments and high-resolution imaging. It uses a focused laser beam to scan a sample point by point and collects emitted light from each point to create quality three-dimensional images. Its unique feature is the ability to eliminate out-of-focus light, resulting in improved clarity and the ability to visualize fine details within a specimen.
Zebrafish Vivarium
Our animal facility contains a zebrafish vivarium with 24/7 monitoring designed for housing, breeding, and observation of zebrafish in a controlled environment.
